Always make room for play!

Welcome to this week's TAO!

This Wednesday we're going to talk about 'Play', as a main theme...

  1. Something to Ponder
  2. Something to Act on
  3. And something to Share

And this week the common theme is all about 'Play'.

Play is often very much overlooked and marginalised in place of 'professionalism' (whatever that means in many organisations these days lol).

I'm being deadly serious about this.

Play has been one of the biggest game changers in my leadership career, without exception!

We're never too old to play!

Something to Ponder 🤯:

What is your favourite memory of play, that you look back on and think, 'Yeah, that was a good day!'?

Play has so many benefits in business just as in your personal life.

Looking back on that memory, you likely felt some pretty good feelings. And that felt somewhat warming to your soul.

It's that feeling we so often miss in our work.

When I think back to happy playful moments in my professional career, I think of things like secretly playing 'Lingo Bingo' with my teams when speaking to other divisions.

We were on calls, doing the work that needed to be done.

But at the same time, playing Bingo, just waiting for the sales team to use terms like:

  • "Low hanging fruit" or
  • "Deal over the line"

The winner of Bingo got an extra hour on their lunch break, or got to leave an hour early 😉

HR never knew. Or if they did, they were so jealous they didn't say anything 🤣.

Something to Act on 🔥:

As far as you practically can do so, try to create a new, playful memory within your work... And make it fun!

Like the suggestion above. Lingo Bingo can be hilarious, especially in corporate environments!

But there are so many more.

And the happier you make your environment, the healthier you become as a person and as a team!

I'm no biology or psychology expert, but I do know this.

A happier mind leads to lower stress, lower anxiety, healthier biochemistry in your body, better wellbeing in terms of digestion, immune system... The list goes on!

And a lot of it starts with play! 🥳

And something to Share 🤝:

This is going to sound cliche... But your something to share this week is to share a little joy!

Very simple this week.

Share the joy with someone you feel could do with some ❤️

See you next week... A little joyful (I hope!) 🥳

P.S. This week's Dad Joke is a classic (as always!)

My friend Jack claims he can communicate with vegetables...

Jack and the beans talk! 🤦‍♂️🤣
